Harry Rios, the Band Leader at Alexander Hamilton accompanied Thomas Henson, our Milt Williams Music Scholarship recipient playing the Saxophone. Thomas will further his education at SUNY Oswego in the Liberal Arts Program with concentration in History and Education.
Ellen Purdy Henson, President of the PTA, and mother of Thomas, reminisced with us that in 1977 she received a Rotary Scholarship making her son’s award even closer to her heart.

Alison Janos is the proud recipient of the Joe Saltzman Service Scholarship for her community service and overall academic achievement. She will be attending Binghamton University where she plans on studying Spanish and Arabic with a focus on translation. Alison’s brother Michael received a scholastic scholarship from the Elmsford Rotary in 2009.

Alishya Thomas received our highest scholastic achievement, our Four Year Scholarship. Alishya will be attending the New Jersey Institute of Technology majoring in biology in pursuit of a career in medicine. She was also instrumental in introducing the Rotary Interact Club at Alexander Hamilton High School to the High School’s Student Government.
Chigozie Udogwu is a recipient of the Joe Saltzman Service Award. Gozie is interested in studying international business or law. Her ultimate goal is to be an ambassador for a corporation.
The month of June is always eventful for the Elmsford Rotary and we look forward to the new year under the leadership of President JT Mc Fadden whose enthusiasm is boundless and motivation contagious.
Our Annual Golf Outing is scheduled for Monday, October 3rd at the Elmwood Country Club and we look forward to a successful outing enabling us to once again offer the scholarships for our community and assist in any International needs that come up from disasters as we have done in the past.
The meeting was called to order at 12:15 by President Joe Arlotta.

PROGRAM
Today Joe Arlotta presented a special Motivational DVD entitled “ NO ARMS, NO LEGS, NO WORRIES. The Author is Nick Vujicic of Australia who tells about his life and the wish he had to become a public speaker. Nick had to pass many barriers to reach his goal including first and foremost that he was born with no arms or legs. He valiantly tells his story and achievements as well as motivating his audiences to believe that there is HOPE always exists until you GIVE UP and that obstacles are opportunities.
Our best asset in life is time. A rich man can be very poor and a poor man very rich. He asked us to close our eyes and imagine that the sun would not rise for us the next day. Then ask ourselves who would we miss, we should we call tonight, what would we say, and if there is anyone that we have hurt that we should apologize to them. Don’t leave to many things off until tomorrow.
Marikay shared with us the story of Brendan, a soldier who has returned from service with no limbs. He is still at Walter Reed Hospital and it is his desire to have his own home. On May 19th Marikay is participating in a fund raiser to help achieve this wish for him. She will be forwarding more information on this fund raiser.

Tim presented the Crystal Star Trophy Award on the behalf of our club to Alan for his years of service to the Best Damn Club in the District. Tim and Alan had a close and amicable business relationship which was easy as Alan practiced the 4 Way Test in all that he did resulting in him being a very honorable person. Alan is generous in all that he does for Rotary and never puts in a chit for anything; not air fare, not even a postage stamp, nor does he look for recognition. When Alan got the medical and computer equipment donated, he not only arranged for the storage, packing and shipment, he would then fly at his own expense to wherever the containers final destination were. He would follow though with the local Rotary Clubs to make certain that the goods were properly distributed to the needy. So close he was to the distribution that a woman named Margaret kissed his hand to thank him for the hospital bed that she had received thanks to Rotary.
He
led and worked beside us on the Highway Clean Up twice a year and often
hosted the breakfast for all of the helpers. He always participated in
our fund raisers by writing to all of his friends for help and those same
friends and business associates supported those pancake brunches by
purchasing advertising space on the placemats that he sold. Tim always
believed that the success of his trucking business was predicated on being
shown on those placemats.

ALAN ACCEPTING HIS AWARD
Star Achiever Presented to Alan Nemlich In appreciation for
Exemplary Work, Dedication, To the Highest Standards of Service

THE HAT WE WILL ALL MISS SEEING
Happy Bucks in the amount of $88.00 were collected as both our membership and guests spoke about Alan.
Bob Forstbauer – happy bucks for how lucky is Alan to be eulogized while still alive. Originally, Bob was going to join the White Plains Club but he was told that he was a misfit and that he had to go to the Elmsford Club. He has always had the utmost respect and admiration for the elders of the club. They were someone to look up to. Bob also mentioned that he had made phone calls to Alan’s Rotary Clubs in Farmington, Maine and Allentown, PA and Alan has been chosen to be their President Elect for the upcoming Rotary year.
Kris – being the newest member of our club with happy bucks for Alan. No one made him more welcome to the club than Alan. It seems Alan took him aside and told him what Rotary was all about and was instrumental in Kris deciding to join the club.
Charlie really tried to be on time for Alan’s last meeting but failed. I think he blamed his tardiness on Jaimie but I am not sure. Charlie expressed what we all felt today and told Alan he would really miss him.
Bob Cucinell knew Alan back in the 60’s and his experience with Alan in business was very similar to Tim’s. When his was opening his first law office, he went to Alan’s furniture store and was amazed at this businessman who made the furnishing of his office so easy. Bob told Alan that he will always be known for his legacy in Rotary and that is that, “Rotarians do not say no to another Rotarian”. Bob thanked Alan for all he had done in Rotary and said that, “Alan was always a gentleman and never expected any recognition for all of the good work that he had done over the years.”
Bill & Betty Scazzero – Bill has been involved in a program at the Valhalla Prison that has taken a good deal of his time but wouldn’t miss this send off for Alan. Bill joined the Rotary because of Alan and wished him and Magda good luck on their new adventure.
Gilda the first woman District Governor in 7230 and has put in over 20 years in our district. Alan and Gilda got off to a rocky start but have become good friends.
Lou & Barbara had sad dollars because Alan wasn’t going to be here any more.
Alix had happy bucks because she loves both Alan and Magda and they will be missed. She wished them luck on their new adventure.
David will miss Alan at our meetings.
Tim stating that Alan should be proud of what he has done for adults and children all over the world.
John – Alan was appropriately named with the first letter of the alphabet. He is first place in everything he does. Alan, as a role model, was instrumental in helping Bob and many others to become better men. Over the years he had impacted both the young and the old. John will really miss having Alan as a partner and winning all of the 50/50 money together.
Maureen had sad bucks for Alan & Magda moving away. Will say farewell instead of goodbye for I know that I will see them again. The large rotary star on the top of the Crystal Award is appropriate as Alan you are a star and you have lit the way for many Rotarians over the years and we appreciate it.
Frances reminding Alan that he promised to take her to the casino and show her how to win.
Debbie – although she is only a member for a year it was Alan who came to her place of business to talk to her about the meaning of Rotary. Alan you are truly a mentor. She was thrilled that her and husband, Tom, were able to sit next to Alan and Magda at the last installation dinner and she was able to pick up some of their secrets to such a happy relationship.
Manny remembering all of the old days, the pancake brunches, the successful fund raisers like the mini grand prix on the streets of White Plains. Alan demonstrating his kindness when the Manny’s dealership was under threat of a flood and he had to find places for over 100 cars, and Alan told him, “what is mine is yours” allowing him to park as many cars as he could in his business parking lot. Manny recommends that we google Alan and see everything that he has done.
Richard who will miss his good friends and the good times that they have spent together. Also said that we should have someone writing a script so that Alan could show his grandchildren what everyone thinks of him.
Andy sharing with us that he hasn’t worn his bowtie since he was in college. He had to dig it out so that he like many of us today could wear a bowtie in honor of Alan who would only wear bowties. When Andy joined Rotary he didn’t have a gray hair in his head and they referred to him as the kid. Well when the kid became District Governor, Glen Nygreen advised him not to slip up. On the second day of his governorship he did slip and fall and needed surgery on his back. The first Rotarian to visit him in the hospital was Alan and he brought a paper bag with a bagel and coffee (both of which Andy wasn’t supposed to have). Alan truly demonstrated the meaning of Rotary with his generosity, his extra touch and his personal involvement.
Ted Nygreen whose father, Glen, was involved in Rotary for many years found out about Magda, the Innerwheel Club, and Alan from his mother even though he was a member of the White Plains Club.
Tiffney remembers her volunteering her son for the Highway Clean Up and had every intention of dropping him off and picking him up later. When she looked out the window of the car and saw Alan standing there with a pick up stick in his hands ready to go, she had no choice but to get out the car and help. Alan is just that way, raising the bar for all of us.
April originally came to Rotary hoping to network and got so much more than that. Alan was the example of service and she enjoyed giving back to the community. It has been an honor to know both Alan and Magda.
Barry for Alan and Magda living life the way it should be although Alan has a interesting choice of clothing (plaids and beanies). It has been a pleasure to see someone achieve what Alan has in his life.
Joe quoted Shakespeare saying, “this was the man”.
Magda told us that back in 1959 Alan came home and told her that he had joined Rotary today. She asked him, “Why did you join a club that has all old men in it?” as he was only 29 at the time. She still remembers the first installation dinner and how bored she was. Now in 2011 she realizes that she and Alan are the elders of that same club.
Our club celebrates birthday and anniversaries every month and Alan remembers our club celebrating his and Magda’s wedding anniversary.
Maureen announced that they were married 61 years
Alan said, “It gets better and better”
Debbie asked, “When does it get better and better”
John announced, “Last Week”
50/50 was won by Ted Nygreen who has been having a very lucky week. He just won the big pot at his club. He thanked Maureen for selling him the winning ticket.
The meeting was called to order at 12:15 by Prez Joe.
The Invocation was eloquently delivered by Marikay Satryano.
ATTENDANCE: Joe A., John, Barry, Kevin, Alan, Marikay, Richard, Tim, Maureen, Charlie.
A this meeting we celebrated John McFadden and Dr. Hal Kellner’s birthday along with Maureen and Tim’ s 16th Wedding Anniversary and Martha and Mike Witkowski’s Wedding Anniversary with chocolate mousse cake.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Next Thursday, April 21st will be Alan’s last meeting with Elmsford. We hope all of those in attendance will have a good or bad Alan story to tell. Of course, we do expect Alan to come back and visit when he travels from Maine to Allentown.
Alan was recognized at the District Conference this past weekend with a Plaque for his lifetime achievement and his many years of Rotary Service.
Maureen reported on her attendance at a breakout session where she spoke about the rewards of hosting the Italian GSE Team this year and encouraged the President Elects to return to their clubs with the message.
Maureen also was honored to be a judge in the 4 Way Speech Contest that was held on Friday afternoon at the District Conference. The first place winner attends Maria Regina High School and compared her life around the four way test with her cousins in Pakistan evoking emotions from all of judges. (Magnificently done and deserving of first place). The second place contestant used music and played his guitar to express his understanding of the four way test. Unfortunately, there were only three contestants this year and it is my hope that we can get more students interested in entering next year’s contest. It is a tradition of Rotary that should be continued.
Happy Bucks collected - $39.00
Marikay wished Alan the best of luck and asked him not to be a stranger. She recently scored 100% in the Army physical fitness test and scored 80% in her civilian test that she was unable to prepare for as she spent the most important four days prior doing her Army test. On her Surgical Mission she was elated to tell us that 12 children will be receiving life saving surgery in the immediate future.
Quite an accomplishment Marikay, you never cease to amaze us. Keep up the good work.
Alan reflected on his 52 years of being in a luncheon club and is looking forward to a breakfast club. He wished us success with our upcoming Golf Outing and told us to give him a call and he would send us some golf balls or something.
John looking forward to next week and hearing Alan stories. Tax season is over this weekend and his wife, Christine, the CPA in the family is celebrating with the girls at Elizabeth Arden’s for R&R. Meanwhile John will be juggling his time with 7 lacrosse games in Basking Ridge, New Jersey with his daughter.
Joe missing Alan already.
Charlie for Richard to sell his house this week.
Kevin will not be here next week as he will be vacationing in Anguilla. Magda has already given him Alan’s shorts and thongs. When Kevin was inducted into the club the ceremony was at Alan’s house and he remembers thinking what the hell am I getting into. He has enjoyed knowing Alan and will miss him.
Maureen reported on the activities at the District Conference and congratulated Alan for his lifetime achievement award.
Richard - looking forward to his family coming in this weekend. He has always thought of himself as a newer member of the club and with Alan leaving he realizes that he is one of the most senior members.
Tim for the sale of Richard’s house, for the great time hosting the Italians and for good test results at Maureen’s doctor visit tomorrow.
50/50 was won by Richard who donated his winnings to the Joe Saltzman Scholarship Fund. Richard pulled two cards from the deck and neither one was the Queen (nine of diamonds and four of hearts).
The meeting was called to order promptly at 12:15 by President Joe.
The Invocation was delivered by John McFadden.

GUESTS
NYC Fire Chief Dan Daly, Speaker
Mary Neff, PDG Toastmasters
Clare Pierceson, Rockefeller Estate Park
Alex Schnee, Tarrytown Rotary
Jack Jolly, Assistant Governor Area 3/Tarrytown Club
Today’s Bulletin is dedicated to our speaker, Dan Daly, who had a very somber program on 9/11 and his personal losses on that day. Dan’s presentation was one of the most riveting that has been delivered to our club. We did our usual happy and sad dollars of which were for Dan, for the memory of all the victims of the Twin Towers and our troops who return home disabled. Also special mention of our civil servants who put their lives on the line for mankind every day but do not receive enough recognition for the good that they do.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO DAN FOR THE GOOD THAT HE DID ON 9/11 AND FOR NOT LETTING PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD FORGET. AS WELL AS RENEWING THE SPIRIT OF OUR INJURED TROOPS WHEN THEY RETURN HOME AND INSTILLING THE WALK WITH AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE IN THOSE THAT ARE IN NEED OF IT.

RETIRED NYC FIRE CHIEF DAN DALY
Chief Dan Daly is a 24 Year Veteran of the New York City Fire Department. On September 11, 2001 he responded to Ground Zero. Dan sped down the Saw Mill River Parkway getting into New York City where he had to commandeer a Mail Truck which was the first vehicle that came along. By the time he reached Ground Zero both Towers had fallen and he found 16 Acres of fire and rubble in which he had lost fifty of his friends. In the next six months he saw the best and the worst of mankind and it changed his life forever. Tents were set up for prayer services and there were no atheists on that pile of rubble with the smell of death.
Though the tragedy of 9/11 was evident to all, Dan found the legacy of 9/11 to be one of teamwork, compassion, and the power of human spirit. Tents were set up with doctors right down to chiropracters where in the beginning the macho firemen refused their help. After days and months of hard work they were not too proud to accept the doctors help. There was a noticeable difference in how Americans responded. People began to hold doors open for others, less horns were honked in traffic and everyone became more polite to each other. He worked extensively at Ground Zero and received the New York State Senate Liberty Medal.
Since that time, Dan has shared his message of peace, hope, and tolerance around the world. At the request of the United States Department of State and other organizations, he has given presentations in over 200 cities from Alaska to Australia and Nicaragua to Nepal.
This year is the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 and Dan was kind enough to speak to our club last Thursday. On this anniversary we have the opportunity to look back on our lives. Dan continues as a charitable speaker for the State Department and retired from the FDNYC eight years ago. He impresses to many that it is important that we walk with an Attitude of Gratitude.
In addition to all of this, Dan is involved in Marathons for Disabled Veterans and shared some very special stories one of which was about a soldier who lost both of his arms and legs and when his father visited him he asked, “What about my friend Joe”. Joe was okay and this soldier’s response was, “thank god he is okay because he has a wife and children”. This soldier was selfless and he was happy that his friend had suffered no life lasting injuries overlooking his own.
Dan has helped an injured soldier with all of his fingers on one hand blown away. He was able to participate in the 26.2 miles marathon with a hand cycle because the doctors had removed two fingers from the other hand and placed them on the fingerless hand.
Dan comes across many soldiers like this as he makes his way around the world and continues to instill the spirit of Walk with an Attitude of Gratitude. He credits his ability to have the impact that he does on people even on Capitol Hill to his training in the Toastmasters Club.

HAPPY BUCKS – $45.00
Marikay for seeing everyone today, Maureen’s Irish Soda Bread and Streusel. Busily studied on her birthday but she did receive birthday calls from two generals.
John for the Do You Know Who you are Program on Friday evening featuring Vanessa Williams in search of information on her heritage. A great tribute to Milt, Past President of our Club.
Alan for email that he received from his Grandson who is going to the OCS. This week they were out training all day in the rain like they were training for war. Alan certainly hopes not and we all agreed. Alan also warned us not to go Efrat as his Granddaughter is learning to drive a car.
Kristian happy that there isn’t any snow falling and that the sun is actually shining for a change.
Charlie happy to be here and a dollar for being late.
Debbie happy to see a full table here today and for our guests.
Barry who hasn’t been around for a couple of weeks due to a nasty cold. He won the first and fourth quarter in the Super Bowl Pool at his office winning a couple of hundred dollars or so.
Tim a sour dollar for the parking ticket he received outside his office today. Happy for our guests today, to see everyone here and just generally happy.
Larry happy that he has finally finished his third luncheon with us. This means an indoctrination is forthcoming.
Maureen happy that she was able to alter the Russian’s opinion that all Americans only eat fast food. That we pick up our food and sit in front of the television and eat. After a week of homemade dinners and desserts, they will return to Russia with a totally different opinion of our eating habits.
Kevin met the Russians at the Town Board Meeting last night and they told him how surprised they are that Americans are so nice. Of course, then he had to protect them from some unruly attendees ready to ask pain in the a__s questions.
Joe happy to see everyone, for his Grandson receiving first honors at Fordham Prep and who will be going to Tennessee over the summer and work with Habitat for Humanity. Also for his Granddaughter who will be going to Italy for a semester abroad.
50/50 WINNER – Larry Fleischman
who donated winnings to our Scholarship Fund. The Queen lives for
another week.

HAPPY BUCKS – $27.0
Your reporter apologizes for the delay in preparing this bulletin but between the snow and the home internet being down she just could not get it done. However, I will attempt to share the sentiments of the members for happy bucks.
John for the JETS (John expressed concern about the outcome of the game and he was right) Better luck next year John.
John also shared Bob’s recent experience with a child in need of surgery and how he expressed his wish to emulate Alan. Bob said, “Not only would Alan be there to help someone in need but that he would have flown out to Cincinnati, Ohio with the family and been there for the child until the operation was performed.
John put them in touch with Angel Flight who agreed to transport the child to Ohio and will contact Rotarians in that area to see if someone could host the family while they were there for the operation.
Tim shared his thoughts on a friend’s father who recently passed away at the age of 94. Happy for the care his friend Neil and family provided for their father. All 8 children and 20 grandchildren and 2 great children were by his side when he passed. Also happy for all of the things that Alan had done in the name of Rotary.
Alan generously donates his time as well as treasury. Both he and Magda made donations for their years of married bliss. They also made donations for their children, Victoria and Andy’s, birthdays coming up in February.
Charlie had a happy buck for seeing pictures of Alan with hair. Alan brought in pictures of when the Elmsford Rotarians collected and shipped medical equipment overseas. (I believe Alan and Joe saw that one through to the end where a woman using the hospital bed even gave Alan a kiss and a thank you. Rumor is that her name was Margaret.
Kevin for the JETS and for his new grandson. Kevin you still have to bring in a picture.
Debbie for Congresswoman Gifford’s recovery in Arizona. Debbie really hoped as a New Yorker to see NY Jets go to the superbowl.
Richard good to be here and for Alan.
Alan happy that his Uncle who is 96 years of age is going strong recovering from his fall and is now getting around with a walker. He brought all of us to laughter when he said, “Timmy is right”. Tim was thrilled because he doesn’t hear that too often. Alan had a message for the missing Rotarians today that they were missing out on the greatest things in life by not being here.
Maureen for our Mr. Wonderful “Alan”, for her wonderful husband and had to admit that she has a wonderful life. But added that Tim is wrong even when he truly is right.
50/50 WINNER – Charlie – but did not pick the Queen so she lives on for another week. Charlie donated his winnings to the Scholarship Fund.
The meeting was called to order President Elect John McFadden
The Invocation was delivered by Tim Tostanoski
Member attendance: John, Tim, Alan, Maureen, Barry, Debbie, Charlie

Maureen – happy to be released from St. Timothy’s Hospital where she was overdosed with cough syrup and given an antibiotic that was advertised on television (call Hollis Law Firm if you have taken this medication). “Not very reassuring”. Happy that she is not only able to get into those old jeans but needed a belt to hold them up because she has lost so much weight.
Debbie for the birthdays and anniversaries and for the people affected by the tragedy in Tucson.
Tim for Maureen’s health, for Charlie & Joe’s Birthday.
Charlie for being a couple of minutes late (as usual), for Alan’s 61 years married, and for the beautiful snow (he loves it).
John for the birthdays and anniversaries, for the big weekend for the New York Jets (we are going to win).
Alan – he and Magda are still cleaning our items in there house finding old notes, letters and cards from people over the years renewing old memories. For his 96 year old Uncle who recently fell at home and needed hip surgery. His first words after surgery were, “I am hungry”. Good indication that he will be back having his weekly luncheon with Alan.
50/50 WINNER Barry who left Maureen Power of Attorney to pull from the deck for the Queen of Hearts. Despite a conflict of interest Maureen agreed and pulled the eight of diamonds.
The meeting was called to order promptly at 12:15 PM.
INVOCATION was presented by Richard Shapiro.
ATTENDANCE: Maureen met and had lunch with the “Magnificent Seven” (Alan, Joe, Richard, Barry, Charlie, Kevin, and David).
Great meeting today with stimulating conversations and abundant laughter.
We are looking forward to visiting WESTHELP this weekend with Santa JT to distribute the gifts to the young children. It has always been such a rewarding experience to see the looks of happiness on their faces and little arms trying to carry a box that is too big for their arms. This year we will be joined by several girl scouts from Judy Forstbauer’s troop who will hand out candy canes.
Reminder to Rotarians the gifts will arrive at WESTHELP at 11:30 and Santa will be there at 12 Noon. It would be great if some of you are there by 11:30 to help bring the gifts in and set up the table and music sound system for Christmas carols.
Happy Bucks collected $25.00
Joe nice to see everyone and happy to be here.
Richard great having lunch with a small but a select group.
Barry doesn’t care about football for the rest of the season but looking forward to pitchers and catchers day for the start of baseball season.
Kevin for his daughter who is expecting a little boy the first week of January.
David happy to be here and will try to help out at WESTHELP on Saturday.
Alan for his granddaughter honorable mention in arts and music and received a scholarship. She is searching for colleges that have Theatre. He likes being here because it is so serious.
Maureen a special thank you to the Rotarians who spent their Sunday afternoon at her house wrapping the gifts for the children of WESTHELP. As always their assistance was greatly appreciated. For Tim who is being paid to eat lunch today.
Charlie who had a good word for the Yankee fans who were disappointed over the failure to sign pitcher, Cliff Lee, for the team. He took a look at Lee’s lifetime record which is not good at all. He shined only for the World Series.
50/50 was won by Maureen who donated the winnings to defray the cost of Christmas Gifts for the children. She pulled the Queen of spades so the Queen continues to survive.
Both Meetings were called to order promptly at 12:15 by President Joe.
Invocations were presented by Maureen and Alan.
We started off the month of December celebrating the Birthdays of John McFadden and Bill Cerbone with red velvet cake as well as the Wedding Anniversary of John and Christine McFadden.

We missed you, Bill, at the meeting but our thoughts
are with you and wishing you the happiest of birthdays.
However, JT looked very happy with our selection of
cakes.
In addition to fellowship the month of December will bring JT as Santa Claus at WESTHELP on Saturday, December 18th at 12 Noon. Wrapping of packages at the Tostanoski’s house on Saturday, December 12th and the delivery of the Student Dictionaries to the third graders at both Mt. Carmel School and Alice E. Grady for a total of 120 dictionaries for our Literacy Project for the year.
We received thank you cards from some of the recipients of our Thanksgiving Baskets which were passed around at the meeting. It is always rewarding to see community appreciation of what our club does.
The Board met on the 12th of December following our luncheon and President Joe will be contacting each member of the club asking their opinion of having one meeting per month at 5:30 PM in an attempt to get some of our members to come out and join us for a short meeting and appetizers.
Happy Bucks 12/2 - $24.00 ----- 12/9 - $30.00
Tim who is always (well most of the time) generally happy. Also happy for Leo for the good turn out of Christmas partiers. Wishes Leo could have crowds like this every night.
John for his partner, Alan, who he buys the 50/50 tickets for even if he is not at the meeting. For Derek Jeter and $40M. For the spoon and fork still being there on Leo’s wall. For Alan who didn’t call or write when he missed last week’s meeting. For Cliff Lee who will be pitching next year for the Yankees.
Joe for Bill and John’s Birthday. Nice to see everyone happy, and happy to be here.
Barry for a job well done on the Thanksgiving baskets. How great it was to see the thank you cards coming in for them.
David sorry to be AWOL for so long but happy to be here and happy to participate in the Christmas Gifts for the children of WESTHELP.
Charlie for John, for the baskets. Happy that he was able to take his Dad out for lunch for his birthday. He remarked how his dad who worked at NBC all those years never once went to the tree lighting there at Rockefeller Center. He always went out the back door to the subway. This past week he was happy to see that Kevin was later than he was. Actually put in a happy dollar with the hope of Cliff Lee joining the Yankee team. He thinks the seven year deal will be a good one.
(now let us all remember that Charlie is still a Met fan.)
Alan missed last week’s meeting and if you have anything to say, talk to Magda. He was happy to see that all his children and grandchildren are doing well. Recently had a sleep over guests, Joe and Myra, who are still waiting to get into their new home. If any of us have a gift for him for Hanukkah, it is not too late.
50/50
12- I can’t remember who won last week but it wasn’t John/Alan. They missed by three numbers. I did have a note that someone pulled the Ace of Diamonds.
12- This time John/Alan did win and they pulled the Jack of Hearts. Their winnings were donated to the Club to help defray the cost of the Christmas Gifts for the children of WESTHELP.
The meeting was called to order promptly at 12:15 by President Joe.
The Invocation was delivered by Barry Litcofsky.

Thankful for Friendship

Thanksgiving is Thanks-Living, and all who call themselves Rotarians have good cause to thank God for the country in which we live being blessed beyond one's fondest dreams. For the fertility of the soil, its rivers and streams, its lakes and its forests. As Rotarians we need not be reminded "to be thankful" for all the rich natural resources by which humanity is enabled to make provision for every need, both spiritual and material. In our assembling today, we witnessed our faith to our fellow beings.
WISHING ALL MEMBERS OF THE ELMSFORD ROTARY A JOYOUS HOLIDAY..

Charlie for the Vets, for the apple crisp that has made working on Veteran’s Day worthwhile.
Barry for the apple crisp that is just about there and close to perfect. Looking forward to judging another one. He had a great birthday last week and seeing family. We advised him only to take one of those little blue pills instead of two.
Joe for his grandson who is doing very well at Fordham Prep.
Naturally, conversations today were mostly centered around baseball discussing how we, of course, can make the teams better. Charlie went to the Yankee Game last night and acted as a buffer between his Yankee fan friends on the left and some unhappy Texas fans on his right. Most agreed that a Yankee vs Giants world series would be great but we all wanted to know happened to those Phillies?

“What Paul Harris said for October”
What is Rotary?
Thousands have made an answer, each in his own way.
it is easier to note what Rotary has done than what it is.
One recently has said, “if Rotary has encouraged us to take a more kindly outlook on life and men;
if Rotary has taught us a greater tolerance and the desire to see the best in others;
if Rotary has brought us pleasant and helpful contact with others who also are trying to capture and radiate the joy and beauty of life,
then Rotary has brought us all that we can expect.”
Member Attendance: Joe A., Alan, Maureen, Tim, Charlie, Barry, Kevin.

Alan unhappy as it seems that his new batteries are only letting him hear half of what is being said. Thank you to Tim for assisting him in getting the right person to empty many years of Rotary collections from the basement of Staples.
Kevin who at first said he was going on a pub crawl, then took it back and no one believed him. On October 17th he will be doing a walk against breast cancer. October 1st his grandson, who is now walking, celebrated his first birthday. On Saturday be on the look out for the man streaking across Yankee Stadium Field (that will be Kevin).
Charlie for all the Yankee fans he knows for the first win in the divisional playoffs. He will be attending Sunday’s game if there is one and he will not be streaking.
Maureen knows your not supposed to talk religion at Rotary but had to share a funny thing that her grandson said after religion class that she taught on Tuesday. While walking in the school hallway he said, “Grandma I have a stomachache” and when that didn’t get much of a reaction he also claimed that the pain was worse than Jesus dying on the cross.
50/50 was won by Alan & Tim. It was Alan that pulled the three of diamonds. Their winnings were donated to the Scholarship Fund.

Charlie happy to be here.
Debbie happy to be back and for the upcoming fall season weather.
Tim received a call from the Farmington, CT Rotary Club who requested the standard letter of good standing with Rotary for Joe V. Tim gave him a glowing reference.
Tim is pinching himself for his good luck going to the Giant Game and two games of golf over his three day weekend.
John a sad dollar for the horrible JETS who stink..…he now knows how the MET fans feel…happy dollars for his wife’s birthday on Monday…..for the kids football team that he coaches who won 35-0.
Alan for his two granddaughters….his Allentown granddaughter is very sophisticated and has received callbacks from several of the colleges that she has applied for….whereas his Maine granddaughter is naïve, no driver’s license but is above genius….achieving a grade of 239 when the highest possible grade is 240. Although we are sure that they have inherited these qualities from Magda, Alan always tells them they are doing as he taught them.
After traveling the 6 hour trip to Maine, Alan greets his daughter with…….let’s get the argument over with so that we can have fun…….
Joe A. reminds us that no matter how many problems we think we have there are people out there with bigger problems than ours such as bad health, blindness, paralysis, etc.
Maureen had sad dollars for the other drivers on the road who do not think when they drive like the one that crossed over two lanes of traffic on 9A in front of trucks obscuring him to cut in front of her in the right lane when she had green light.
Richard who is thinking of Joe Voves and twenty five years of enjoying him as a dear friend who is very informative and a terrific guy…Richard has grandchildren younger than Alan’s and only hopes that his will have the accomplishments that Alan’s had achieved.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Today was a sad day as we said farewell to one of our cherished Charter Members and PDG as he moves on to Farmington, Connecticut to be closer to family. Joe Voves was always one of the first to step up to the plate and volunteer his time, service, and financial support for any project that the ERC took on. His life experiences have held us spellbound and everything he did was with great charm and class. It is an understatement to say that Joe will be missed by us.
