THE VILLAGE OF ELMSFORD
The Village is steeped in our country's history. The winds of the Revolutionary War swirled about the Village and it was here that Major John Andre, the infamous British spy, was captured by three local militiamen, one of whom was Isaac Van Wart. His remains now lie in the little local cemetery grounds of the Elmsford Reform Church which was established in 1780. Legend has it that the Village was named by George Washington himself. Elmsford is a warm little Village, with friendly industrious people, inspired by the towers of industry which rise around it, but at the same time, mellowed by it's own sense of history. |
